. #PeopleArePowerful .

Whether you are a Prince, a CEO, an artist, a volunteer, an athlete, a loud-mouth, an actress, a soldier, a dancer, a journalist, a lawyer, a professor, a dreamer, a creative, an astro-physicist, a student, a child, or someone with age and wisdom, we all have a story. A story as unique as each of us. And in that story there is power.

Other people's experience of struggle and love, success and failure, pain and strength strikes a chord in all of us. Why? Perhaps because it’s honest.

Ever heard of Humans of New York? If not, where have you been? Check it out in the link to the right. (WARNING: Do not visit the HONY site if you have to be somewhere in 10 minutes, you WILL be late).

Everyday people’s stories are so incredibly powerful and HONY taps into that raw honesty that draws us to one another.

So, in our #PeopleArePowerful portrait photography series, we celebrate the strength that exists in everyone, and the ability that we

all have to help and inspire others.

No matter how young or old we are, whether we consider ourselves a success or a failure, no matter where we've come from or where we're going, People Are Powerful.

. Newcastle College .

With around 18,000 students, Newcastle College is the largest college in the North East, offering a wide range of vocational school leaver courses, apprenticeships and degree programmes.

The college’s purpose is to ‘unlock potential through learning’, making sure that all students are ‘work ready’. They focus on providing learners with an exceptional learning experience that will inspire them to be the best they can be in their chosen field.

Brief: Having worked with the college since 2012, I have the pleasure of photographing their most accomplished students in a range of case study portraits for use across every imaginable marketing platform.

These students are often holding down at least one job while studying and have huge aspirations for the future, often going on to work or train in world-renowned establishments.

During our shoots, the students talk time and time again about the incredible opportunities that the tutors create for them.

Plugging them in to experiences (like working on costume backstage at the Beyonce gigs, no biggy!) that set them up for life and give them that essential real-world experience that was so desperately lacking from my own student days (*cough* a couple of years back now *cough*).

I always come away from these portrait photography shoots feeling inspired by the students and staff at Newcastle College and the standard of work they are producing.

Rest assured that the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and kicking in the next generation, folks.

. Spire Washington Hospital .

Spire Washington Hospital is a small private hospital run by an incredible and tight-knit team of people, most of whom have been long-standing members of staff. The hospital first opened in 1988 as an Independent British Hospital and, in 2007, became part of Spire Healthcare – the country’s second largest private hospital group.

Spire Healthcare has 38 hospitals across the UK - all of which are governed by strict branding rules and guidelines put in place by their central team - although marketing is operated at a local level.

Brief: I've worked closely with Spire Washington since 2011. Throughout this time we’ve carefully crafted a look and feel to the portrait photography so that it sits comfortably within their visual identity and has become a recognisable part of their brand.

Always keen to shout about their amazing staff and happy patients, the photography commissions can be either set to camera portrait photography case studies or reportage to capture staff going about their work (or having a laugh with each other).

At the tail end of 2016, the Marketing and Business Development team at Washington implemented a completely new strategy which meant there was a requirement for a whole new bank of photography.

We continue to work closely together to ensure the photography is in keeping with the new creative – human, welcoming and relatable, and of course within brand guidelines.

. Bravo 22 .

Bravo 22 Company is The Royal British Legion's recovery-through-the-arts programme, successfully organising regional projects for the Armed Forces community.

The recovery and well-being through the arts programme helps wounded, injured and sick service personnel, along with veterans and family members, on their path of recovery through theatre or art.

Bravo 22 Company, in conjunction with Theatre Royal Newcastle, ran a theatre project in the Tyneside area in 2016 leading to the performance of the play, Wor Stories, in early December.

Brief: I was contacted by London-based media agency, John Brown Media, with the brief to capture reportage portrait images of the Bravo 22 Company during a rehearsal session.

John Brown Media are world leaders in content marketing. They’ve ‘mastered the art of crafting positive conversations for the world’s best-loved brands, and have been since 1987’.

Among other activities for the Royal British Legion, John Brown Media are responsible for producing the RBLs magazine which has a print run of 250,000 and is published five times a year.

These images were used as part of a feature in the RBL magazine on the Newcastle Upon Tyne’s Bravo 22 Company and the positive life-changing impact it has on everyone involved.
